The Beast and Ghost largely compared because of their many differences, yet both can be considered the best. In this article, we are going to look review the two most compared bats in the market today: the Easton Ghost X and Easton Beast X.
Easton has been one of the largest baseball bat makers for over a decade. They are known to make one of the best bats in the U.S and in the world. Every year, they release a flagship baseball bat line and the Beast X and Ghost S are always leading the line. A lot goes on into making a professional bat. Factors such as vibration when the player hits the ball, grip, drop, pop and durability have to be considered when making a bat.
The Ghost X and Beast X are two of the main Easton’s rivals. Although they have major differences, many are torn on which is better. They are the best of both ends, and it all comes down to personal preference. In this article we are going to compare the two according to the listed factors above.
Easton Ghost X Hyperlite Youth Bat
The 2019 Easton Ghost Hyperlite X is one of the latest bats released by Easton. It is also one of the most unique bats Easton has released. Its single piece construction design gives it a stiff feel while still keeping its light weight and comfort of a fully composite USA youth bat.
This bat is made from carbon composite to make it light and tough at the same time. Because of the lightweight design, the player is able to maximize on their flexibility, response time and durability. With a large barrel of a diameter 2 5/8 inches, it provides the perfect sweet spot when hitting the ball.
The 2019 Easton Ghost X has one great composite handle. It is cushioned in soft rubber that is about 2.2mm thick that distributes weight equally from the handle to the barrel. But what stands out the most about the Ghost X is its light weight.
When making a bat, the length to weight ratio of the bat known as drop, matters. Drop should be kept low, in the negatives. The lower the drop the better and more ergonomic the bat is. The Ghost X has a drop of -11 which is one of its best elements.
The Easton Ghost X is a great bat for younger athletes that need more developing before moving up to a -10 drop bat. The following are some of the elements that make this bat one of the best bats in USA for young upcoming athletes.
Pop is the property of how easy it is to swing a bat. Being fully composite with a drop of -11, the Easton Ghost X provides a nice pop. The bat was tested by volunteers and they were satisfied with the levels of pop the bat has. One said, the new Ghost X Hyperlite was easier to swing that the other Ghost X and my balls went just as far. It was very fun and easy to swing.’ This makes it a great bat for young beginning players.
Vibration control is how much the bat handle vibrates in the hand when you hit the ball. The Easton Ghost X does not score highly here. Because of its single piece construction, the vibration stings are felt quite a bit. Other Ghost X variations such as the Easton Ghost X Evolution have a two piece design that make the vibrations barely sting. 15% of volunteer testers said that they felt a vibration sting.
Grip and Comfort
The Ghost X has a quite a nice grip. With a -11 drop length to weight ratio, the bat is easy to swing as it is to hold. The soft rubber 2.2mm thick cushion also provides traction between the handle and hand. This gives more speed and balance to the young hitter which means more power is generated. It is quite a major improvement from a -12 drop bat.
The Easton Beast X Hybrid Youth Bat
The 2019 Easton Beast X is also one of the latest releases by Easton. It is referred to as a ‘hybrid’ bat because it made by a mix of carbon composite and metal alloy. It combines the power of metal alloy and the comfort of carbon composite making it one of the best youth bats in the market today.
Similar to its predecessor, the 2018 Beast X, the Beast X Hybrid utilizes the Easton Advanced Thermal Alloy Construction technology (ATAC) which absorbs the explosive sound of when the ball hits the bat. This technology coupled with the large 2 5/8 inches diameter barrel provide the young athlete with the perfect sweet spot when hitting the ball.
Unlike the Ghost X, this bat has a two piece construction design combined with a carbon composite 1.4mm HYPERSKIN cushion to provide grip and comfort and eliminate sting vibrations. This in turn gives the player enhanced durability and confidence at the plate. This youth bat also comes with an end loaded swing weight to put more weight in the sweet spot and add extra power with to every strike.
The Beast X Hybrid is relatively light. Compare to the Ghost X however, it is heavier. When tested, this bat gave less ball distance than the Ghost X. This is because of its higher drop length to weight ratio which is -10. Its higher drop is attributed to its hybrid nature making it heavier but increasing comfort and general feel.
Here is where the Beast X Hybrid outdoes itself. Because of the added alloy and composite mix on the handle, coupled with the 1.4mm rubber cushion around it, the Beast X takes away most of the vibration sting. Volunteer tests revealed that only 3% out of 250 strikes felt a vibration sting. The handle absorbs a lot of the vibrations.
Grip and Comfort
This heavily depends on the individual hitter. For many first time hybrid users coming from a -11 drop bat, the Beast X does not really feel comfortable. While for people who have used hybrids before, the Beast X Hybrid feels amazing on their arm. Players not accustomed to the hybrid feel generally gave a bad review while regular hybrid users loved it.
The Beast X hybrid holds up really well over time and strikes. After 250 documented strikes, the bat showed some scratches and handling marks but nothing too serious that could affect the performance of the bat like cracks.
In summary, these youth bats are one of the best in the market. The Easton Ghost X is for younger players whereas the Beast X Hybrid is for slightly advanced youth players. They can both be found on Amazon at affordable prices.
