Don Mattingly Steps Up To Plate For At-Risk Youth And Is Honored At The 5th Annual Evening With the Dove

Local New York Charity Announces Partnership with Yankee Icon Providing Programs for At-Risk Youth

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -April 2, 2007 - Most people know Don Mattingly as "Donnie Baseball," the six-time All-Star, 1984 American League MVP and Gold Glove first baseman who played for the Yankees from 1982-1995 and now serves as the Yankees’ bench coach. But Mattingly is making some plays off the field now and he is using his knowledge of the game to help young people in need.

Don Mattingly has launched Mattingly Baseball, an equipment company that features a new bat he invented designed specifically to help teach young players how to hit. And Mattingly Baseball is teaming up with Urban Dove, a local non-profit that serves at-risk youth, to create youth programs that will use baseball as a way to engage kids in positive, educational programs.

Urban Dove (www.urbandove.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of New York City's at-risk youth, will honor Mattingly for his efforts in helping New York City youth at the 5th Annual Evening with the Dove, on Monday, April 16. Mattingly will be introduced by Speaker of the New York City Council, and long-time Yankee fan, Christine Quinn. Former New York State Governor Mario Cuomo will introduce Urban Dove's other honoree: Joseph Spinelli, C.O.O. of Daylight Forensic and Advisory. Spinelli was the Inspector General for New York State under Governor Cuomo and is also being honored for his dedication to helping at-risk youth.

Lauren Glassberg of WABC-TV will serve as master of ceremonies. This benefit celebration will bring together more than 450 New Yorkers in support of Urban Dove's work with at-risk children. It also raises awareness and funds for the Urban Dove programs.
