Mattingly announces BEAST award for top hitters in the country
Mattingly is pleased to announce the creation of the BEAST Award – a special award that that will acknowledge extraordinary hitting performance of baseball and softball players across the nation. The honor will be awarded throughout the spring season at select tournaments starting this month.
Mattingly has partnered with the following organizations that will select the Beast Award recipients: Baseball America, Baseball Factory, Super Series, Baseball Heaven in Long Island, NY and Myrtle Beach Sports in South Carolina, (PFX) Professional Fastpitch Extreme Tour and Softball 360 - a division of the World Softball League. In addition to receiving the new Mattingly Beast V-Grip™ composite bat, selected winners will be featured on partner Web sites and publications, including www.mattinglybaseball.com. Each winner will also receive an official BEAST award plaque signed by Don Mattingly.
In accordance with the hitting philosophy of Don Mattingly, the BEAST award will reflect not only great batting statistics, but the overall effort and attitude of the player. The award's name is derived from these characteristics:
Batting Average, Effort, Attitude, Slugging percentage, Total on base percentage.
"Don wanted to have an award that reflected his vision of batting performance and also rewarded a strong work ethic," says Skip Shaw, President of Mattingly.
